Monday 22nd June was a special day for the new owners of the Dehler 46, YKNOT. After the handover ceremony, they spent the day getting to know their new yacht. This was a chance to get expert advice from the Windcraft service team and go through maintenance schedules, as well taking the yacht out for a test sail with Technical Sailing Advisor, Ric Hawkins.
Ric spent the day with the new owners going through specific techniques for sailing in different conditions. The owners were keen to learn how to get the best out of their new pride and joy. And Ric was with them all day to answer questions.
The next day the owners and Ric sailed the yacht to her new home, Port Hacking. This 7 hour trip was another chance to fine tune and test out new equipment. Conditions were perfect to hoist and fly the gennaker – a performance sail used for fast cruising and racing. This cross between a spinnaker and a genoa is designed for speed but easy enough for two people to manage.
The fun continued on day three with YKNOT’s first club race. Ric was onboard again to help and advise with the “set up” for the race. The race was heavily handicapped and despite the lack of wind, the yacht performed really well. It was the first social event for the Dehler 46 and she was greatly admired.
In the words of Ric Hawkins
“What an amazing day! I was so impressed with the Dehler’s performance, especially in light winds and considering she’s so beautifully fitted out. I can see the Dehler 46 setting new standards in the racing world.”
What’s next for the Dehler 46? It will be on display at the Sydney International Boat Show from 30thJuly to 3rd August.
The latest Dehler 46 was launched in Sydney this week. Team Windcraft’s Ric Hawkins, Ross Turner and Dave Griffin were there to meet with the excited new owner.
The owner intends to race his new 46 aiming towards competing on the Gold Coast and at Coff’s Harbour. With this in mind, Ric was able to share his strong technical racing knowledge and offer smart advice about the best positioning of al the equipment and alternative racing rigging setups.
It was a wonderful day to test out this beautiful yacht on the water for the first time and in such a stunning location! What a way to view the Opera House! Team Windcraft’s Dave Griffin enjoyed taking the helm.
The Dehler 46 is now on the way to Bayview for commissioning and will be ready in 2-3 weeks. We are very proud to welcome the Dehler 46 and her new owner to the Windcraft family.
